Art By Charlotte

About Me
I am Charlotte Phillips, a representational self-taught painter. My studio is in my home in Port Charlotte, FL that I share with my husband and little dog, Buddy. My primary mediums are oils and acrylic paints. I grew up in a home filled with the arts. My Mother was a pianist and my Dad a painter. They instilled in me the love and appreciation for good music and the beauty of artwork. Each art form goes hand in hand and are a big part of my life today. I study and admire modern day painters like Andrew Tishler and Ian Roberts, to name a couple.
I believe being an artist is something your born to do and not necessarily learned in school. I had the greatest teacher as a child sitting on my Dad‘s knee at his easel while he painted. It wasn’t until after a life of working and raising a family that I had the time and opportunity to explore and develop my artistic abilities. What a blessing I have uncovered late in life.
My husband and I have been so blessed with a life of adventure and travel on our sailboat and across this beautiful country in our Motorcoach. I am inspired by our travels and the tremendous beauty we have experienced on the water and land. I feel called to share that beauty with others through my paintings. There is also a love for wildlife that I enjoy painting. I also have a passion for portraying and preserving the memories of our precious pets, who so unconditionally love us and devote their lives to bringing us joy. Nothing makes me happier than delivering a pet portrait and tears flow down the checks of the customer. I have successfully pulled at their heart strings when this happens.
Painting brings me peace and a soulful connection to things and places I love. My hope, as a painter, is that you, the viewer, will receive that same peacefulness and connection from my paintings.

Artist Statement
I am driven to create art. Most of my artwork is on canvas, but I never turn down the opportunity to paint a large stone for someone’s garden or a happy octopus on a foyer cabinet to welcome visitors. I continue to educate myself, learning new techniques and products to enhance my art practice.
I enjoy the whole art process, every aspect; the planning stage of something I’m inspired to paint. The sketches, color studies, and finally putting brush to canvas are so exciting to me. Beauty is all around us just asking to be painted, the expansive seascapes, the majestic mountains and plains, or the simple beauty in the gradient color of tomatoes ripening on the vine in your garden. I make art to bring beauty, solace, and peace to our homes and lives.
“My husband became a first-time dad and I wanted a very special father’s day gift for him to show my love and appreciation. I commissioned my Aunt Charlotte to create a portrait of our beloved 16-year-old dog and our beautiful 6-month baby girl.

This was a long-distance project we did from many photos and messages back and forth. Charlotte was kind, professional, and so great to work with. We are so happy, and have a beautiful memory placed into her painting to enjoy for years to come.”

“My first thought is of the day I started taking photos of my two dogs for Charlotte to paint a portrait from. Wound up with good photos of each dog and a good background photo. From these she was able to capture their beauty and personalities.

One of my dogs is older and I know I do not have a lot of time left with her. Every time I look into their eyes smiling back at me, it brings tears to my eyes. How can I put into words the mastery, talent, and passion Charlotte has for each painting she creates."
